Print Design
Print design was my living for over 20 years. I started doing design work back in about 1986 when I was in college, and met my first Macintosh not too awful long after that. I spent 15 years as Art Director of a print shop, so I'm familiar with both design philosophy and how to get a job on the press efficiently. Whether you want a simple one-color flyer or a full-color multi-page book that can be repurposed as a PDF for the Internet (such as our own brochure), I have the tools to get the job done.
So, if you need a brochure, business cards, letterhead, or whatever designed, just lemme know!
The Goods
If you hire me to do a project destined to see a printing press, here's what I'll do for you...
Give me an idea of what you want (two-color business cards, for example) and your logo. I'll design the business cards (for example) and e-mail you a PDF to proof. We'll go back and forth a few times until you're happy with it. Once everything's good and approved, I'll copy the job, all attendant files (graphics, what have you), and a high-resolution PDF onto a CD and mail it to you. Then all you gotta do is take the CD to the print shop of your choice. (If you don't want a CD, I can just e-mail the high-resolution PDF to you, which you can then forward on to the print shop of your choice.)
I'll also make sure to put all my contact info with the job, so if the print shop has a problem with the file, or needs a different format, they can talk directly to me rather than confusing you by burbling on about bleeds and gripper and linescreens and technical stuff like that.
The Cost
As with most things creative, it's nearly impossible to put a price tag on design work. The best anyone's been able to come up with is to simply charge an hourly rate. Mine happens to be $45 an hour. That may sound high, but I encourage you to check around - you'll find I'm actually pretty reasonable. Again, you can find more details on our downloadable brochure.
As always, the initial consultation is free, but I do charge a consulting fee for any subsequent meetings.
